Learn About H42/H4U

Our Goal​

We want to test the effectiveness of the H42/H4U lifestyle intervention integrated into prenatal care compared with usual care among 380 pregnant and postpartum women

Eligibility 

  • ​​Must be over 18 years of age 
  • Less than 15 weeks gestation into a singleton pregnancy
  • Have a BMI greater than or equal to 25
  • Must be attending a Johns Hopkins clinic for prenatal care
    • Johns Hopkins Hospital: Nelson 2 and JHOC
    • Greenspring Station
    • Bayview-BMO
    • Bayview Practice at White Marsh
    • Johns Hopkins Community Physicians Practices: East Baltimore Medical Center, Remington, and Canton Crossing

Two Different Groups

Maintain Health in Pregnancy (mHIP) Group
  • This group receives all their recommended pregnancy care at the clinic, guided by their usual providers
Health Coaching Group
  • This group also receives all their recommended pregnancy care at the clinic, and are also paired with a health coach who they meet with throughout the study. They also complete online educational activities on topics like nutrition, exercise, and wellness and track their weight and diet using a cellphone app.
